Dear Mr. Palfrey,
I am writing to
apply for the project assistant position with the Berkman Center. The position
offers two opportunities. The first is to work in a place that shares my interests in education,
technology, community, and the role of legal constraints. The second is to match my
professional and intellectual experience with the needs of the position coordinating, researching,
and writing for diverse concurrent projects, both individually and collaboratively.
As a social-entrepreneur
and co-founder of GoTrek
, I coordinated our non-profit incorporation,
managed our web site's production and maintenance, and designed our Spanish itinerary and
pedagogy. That program currently leads eight adventure based learning expeditions across Spain
every summer. As a an expedition leader I created personalized curriculum, arranged logistics,
and lead ten high school students on a 600 mile trek on foot. I lead two expeditions a summer for
2 summers. I am confident this will serve as excellent preparation for the Berkman Center's fast-
paced entrepreneurial setting.
As a member of
the CTE research and design team at the Harvard Extension School, I
developed the technical and theoretical foundations for a standardized information
storage
and
database system. In addition, I designed a high-school pilot program and framework for studying
the effects and impact of software on personal knowledge management. As a result, I am
confident in my ability to cultivate necessary technical expertises, apply my aptitude for personal
knowledge management, and integrate those skills with the Berkman Community.
As a writer, I
produced a synthesized thesis
of my seven classes during the spring semester of
2003. I produced 5 papers, 17 web pages, and a searchable database of the resources compiled
during the semester. During that same period I created three web pages that provided a visible
map to chart and assess the progress of my work. I then shared those online databases with my
classes so that my communities could utilize the assembled resources and offer valuable
feedback. I see this position as an opportunity to refine, expand, and continue those processes.
In sum, I am confident
that my work experience, academic work, and passion for education
make me a strong applicant for the project assistant position. I look forward to discussing my
application. If you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at
(617) 359-7391.
Sincerely,
Andreas Agiorgitis
