Appropriate Excerpts from my time in the little red schoolhouse.
Codex Harvardicus Superfluous:
I have asked approximately 6400 of the brightest and most
talented individuals I know and they
have agreed
to gather together, with the guidance of world renowned
experts in almost every area of intellectual
inquiry,
and to inhabit the same area for at least 1 year. The fruit
of their labor would be an encyclopedia,
this
Encyclopedia will contain two volumes that number 500,000
pages each. The Codex Harvardicus
Superfluous Volumes Fall and Spring. Question: Did you
know that we produce such an
encyclopedia every
year?
No one person, group, or institution can shoulder the responsibility
of this massive squandering of
resources
alone. It is a collective failure and a collective responsibility,
and this thesis is an individual effort to
explore
its resolution within myself as an individual and how that
may be potentially be used to mobilize the
resources necessary to catalyze systemic change within
the graduate programs at Harvard. As an
active
participant within this system, I have thus far explored
either my participation within this failure (the
production of 4 seperate papers each semester) or my avoidance
of the issue entirely.
Language is a theme that arcs across the various subject
domains of this paper. There are many
languages
taught within the intellectual disciplines and in order
to become fluent in them I must move beyond
the mere
repitition of vocabulary and mindless obedience to grammar.
Yet each of these is the foundations
upon
which fluency is built.
I use this software as part of my classroom participation. My webpages are updated
during class
as I gather information and put on the web with searchable database for my classmates if there
should be overlap in interests.
