The first phase
contains ideas that can be implemented almost immediately with very little
investment. The second phase requires a modest increase in resources and calls for
investigation and planning over the next year. Finally, we present some brief thoughts about our
ultimate goal. We can provide documents containing more details about our phase III plans for
staffing structure, facility and equipment needs, and other Center activities.

resources.

proposal
The longer-term
ambition of the Center is to enhance interaction between students, faculty,
visitors and create a sense of community in a specially designed facility. The building would
contain research labs, a gallery for exhibitions, a theatre for experimental performance,
classrooms, a lecture hall, offices and a coffee shop or informal meeting space. Such a space
would ideally offer facilities not currently available at Brown or RISD and could become a
major cultural attraction for the city. A downtown location would be ideal.
