The Center would
encourage, support, and supervise relevant research, programs, and
projects. It could also handle admission and advising of students in future joint-degree
programs developed by the Center. The assumption here is that all these joint enterprises
would first be approved by each institution, using its normal mechanisms of review, but, once
established, would be coordinated by a Center Faculty Committee, to minimize duplications of
effort and maximize creative interaction.
As the Center grows,
we imagine some of the activities would be
-
Coordinate existing
curricula, plan new courses, supervise independent studies, plan
and offer joint degree programs, assign graduate fellowships
- Identify and develop multi-disciplinary
research projects
· Sponsor
public events, concerts, exhibitions, conferences etc.
· Raise funds
for equipment, facilities, research, fellows and visiting artists
· Promote
key faculty appointments that would benefit the Center
· Sponsor
post-docs and visiting artists
· Create publications
and a web site
· Explore
funding possibilities for a building
· Develop
relationships with corporate sponsors and act as an incubator for new business ideas
